LONDON '68

A painting of the Manchester United team that became the first English side to win the European Cup on May 29th at Wembley. (Celtic was the first British club to win the trophy the previous year). After beating Real Madrid 4 -3 on aggregate in the semi-final United were due to meet Portuguese champions and star player Eusebio, 10 years after the Munich air crash. The game went into extra time after ending 1 – 1 with goals from Bobby Charlton and Jaime Graca. Further goals in extra time including a solo effort by George Best, Brian Kidd who celebrated his 19th birthday on the night and another from Bobby Charlton put the icing on Kidd’s birthday cake, sealed a memorable victory & much longed for European glory.
