In 2002, at Hampden Park, Real Madrid were up against German opposition again in the form of Bayer Leverkusen, who were looking for their first European Cup.
It was the Spanish side who struck first, with Raul Gonzalez's low shot finding its way past Hans-Jorg Butt in the Leverkusen goal inside the first 10 minutes.
Lucio levelled minutes later, heading the ball past Cesar Sanchez in goal for Real Madrid.
Zinedine Zidane produced a sensational volley to swing the final back in Los Blancos' favour just before half-time, paying back the 72 million euros Florentino Perez paid for him.
Then it was Iker Casillas' turn to shine after he replaced the injured Cesar in goal halfway through the second half.
The 20-year-old came up with several important saves in the remaining minutes to ensure the big-eared cup would heading back to Madrid.
